nature is freedom

Naturist, lawyer, freedom apologist

Ram Joubin has been a life-long social justice advocate, starting with his work at the Equity Office and the Social Justice Center at the University of British Columbia, and then as an international human rights campaigner and children’s rights advocate for kids with autism. In his first year as a lawyer in 2016, Ram received the Dugald Christie Lawyer of the Year Award for most pro bono clients seen in East Vancouver in 2016-2017, and took on complex child protection, family law, and refugee cases as well as some criminal defense. He has now branched out into issues relating to freedom of expression and defamation law. Ram continues to engage with both the English-speaking and Persian-speaking communities as a political and human rights activist and educator.

At the University of British Columbia, he was an Equity Ambassador, on the Social Justice Center Executive, and founder of "The Environmental Psychology Research Group" dedicated to presenting research linking human well-being to nature. Recently, he has gone out into the field and helped defend Old Growth Forests alongside the Wilderness Committee.

Ram was born in Iran and moved to Virginia, USA as a child before moving to North Vancouver in 1996 and graduating from high school there. While living in the USA, he was heavily influenced by people like Abraham Lincoln and writers such as Mark Twain and Henry David Thoreau. For the past 5 years, he and his partner Lindsey Anna have been living in East Vancouver. Together, they participate and take pride in their community. Building a sense of community is very important to them. They and their little son Darius and mini-Schnauzer-Chihuahua Ziggy are active in East Vancouver, and you’ll often see them participating in community events.
